A bit of life’s fleetingness is contained in each of Renata Tumarova’s (*1979) soulful city scenes. She sets herself apart with a mixture of gestures, stances, constellations, and light. She reduces reality radically in her painting – her pieces come to life on the first look, bringing the unseen, hidden, or forgotten to the surface.

On her travels, she captures the spirits of visited cities – impressions of atmospheric light carry equal weight to people’s own thoughts and lives. Her peak enthusiasm is on display with her images of larger cities, which waver between bluster and sentimentality.
