Hirthe Rasmus

RASMUS HIRTHE (*1971 in Hamburg) studied Fine Art and Visual Communication at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg from 1996 to 2004, where he received his diploma in 2004.
Despite his solid training at one of Germany’s most renowned art academies, his artistic work displays an untamed, unrestrained wildness.
At first glance, his palette appears limited to non-colors. Black-and-white painting sharp divisions and demands clarity. However, the artist succeeds in suggesting color by translating very bright highlights into strong contrasts. A sense of chromatic harmony emerges through the thick application of material layers on a coarsely woven surface, which allows light to shine through and gives the image its luminosity.
